Dear colleagues,

We would like to share with you what was discussed and decided during the meeting with Dormitories’ Managing Board.

• The Board Manager promised to install video surveillance in the dormitories’ halls and probably in the kitchens. In this way, the Dormitory administration will keep a track on everyone who, damages the common premises and hold him individually responsible.
• Unfortunately, no major repair of Dormitory 1 is projected. (In Dormitory 2, however, rooms are repainted every year.)
• Mrs. Doncheva promised to conduct a training seminar to the receptionists and housekeepers, so they will improve their professional attitude.
• In regards to the security personnel issue, the Dormitory Board Manager said that in case of student fight or other conflicts, the receptionist will contact the local Police Service.
• Another important thing that you should note is that if a student pays the dormitory fee in one payment for the whole year, he or she cannot terminate the contract and leave the dormitory earlier. This means, that you have to carefully plan your stay at the dormitory, because there will be no refunds to your prepayment. Exceptions will be made only if a student wants to attend an exchange program abroad, which also will have to be confirmed by CITYU administration.
• The Board Manager also promised that the dormitory fees will be frozen at least for the next academic year.
• There will be part-time job opportunities for CITYU students at the RIU Pravetz Resort Golf and SPA. The Board Manager said that soon he will inform us about the new job openings.
• We were promised that from the next term on, we will all have the opportunity to switch rooms from Dorm 1 to Dorm 2 if we want to.

If you have any other issues concerning the Dormitories, please contact us at parliament@cityu.bg

CityU Charity

Hello everyone!

We are very proud to announce that our long-term project CityU Charity is now an official CityU Initiative! Since the beginning of this Academic Year 09/10, we have developed and worked on realizing this initiative which aims at helping children and young people who haven't the chances and the opportunities we have with both financial and social support! The CityU Charity Initiative will be focusing on different Charity Projects depending on the trimesters' holidays and celebrations as well as the needs of those we help.

We have planned three projects this Winter Term for raising money for the the orphans in "St. Ivan Rilski" Orphanage in the Razliv Village that will improve their education environment with materials and technological auxiliaries.

Our first project is featuring St. Valentine's day the whole Week 6, when you will have the opportunity to buy home-made Charity Heart Cookies by us and donate the money from your purchase to the "St. Ivan Rilski" children.

You are also invited to the CityU Valentine's & Trifon Zarezan Party @ the City Caffe right across the university's door on Tuesday, February 9th @ 9P.M. where you can donate whatever additional amount of money you are able to, help yourself with free white and red wine and enjoy the lovely party atmosphere!

The second project we developed will be featuring Baba Marta the whole Week 9, when you will have the opportunity to buy hand-made Charity Martenitzi by us and donate the money from your purchase to the "St.Ivan Rilski" children.

We ensure you that your donated money will be used directly for purchasing new education materials and technological auxiliaries that will improve the education atmosphere in the "St. Ivan Rilski" orphanage. Later on we will provide you with photos :)

Just because children do not only need financial support but also a social one, we decided to make a Charity Movie Night in their orphanage so that they will feel a little bit more loved and taken care of. For all you that want to participate in this event, please contact us @ parliament@cityu.bg

As your colleagues we know that you are very likely to help those kids receive what we always had, so we hope that you will respond to our call for help the "St. Ivan Rilski" children!

Dear colleagues,

We were informed that a meeting between CityU Administration members and Dormitories Managing Board will be conducted soon. As all of us have numerous complaints concerning the services we receive as clients of UNI (the firm that manages our dormitories) we listed a short draft of the basic problems we experience every day. This draft will be given to Dean Scott Mason as well as to the administration members with the hope that they will support us and help improve the standards of our staying in the dormitories. Here are the issues stated in the letter:

  • Students feel that fees do not match the quality of the services provided.
  • The new policy with the deposits is vague and most of the students believe they are being cheated especially when, as they say, random amounts of money disappear from their accounts without their knowledge. Management does not give any reasonable explanations, since there are no visible improvements.
  • Utilities like microwaves have long ago outlived their useful lives. These utilities need to be replaced or, at least, repaired (microwaves plates are missing in all kitchens in Dorm 1).
  • In 2007 the students were promised by the management of the dormitories that during the summer of 2009 a major repair will be done, however only our mattresses were changed and the kitchens were re-painted.
  • The housekeepers and the receptionists do not have professional attitudes towards their jobs. For example, some of the receptionists smoke on their work place, ignore complaint calls from students, share students personal files with unauthorized third parties; some housekeepers talk in a very loud voice early in the morning in the halls.
  • Part of the students’ fee includes security personnel; however no such is present even during emergency situations like student fights.

Please if you have any suggestions of other issues that you would like to be mentioned, write us @ parliament@cityu.bg as soon as possible.

As we said when you voted for each of us, we are your voice which really counts so the more you share with us, the more we could help!
